Community College Noord
Burton Hamfelt Architectuur Stedebouw Prototypes, 2010 - 2011

Project: Community College, North Campus, Amsterdam NL
Client: ROC van Amsterdam
Phase: Design-build, final interior design, 2011 (construction completed 2013)
Contribution: I was responsible for updating the 3-dimensional Sketch-up model as well as adding finishes, details and furniture. I was significantly involved in spatial planning and layouts as well as projected graphics and colour schemes. I created vignettes of these spaces from the Sketch-up
model and worked continuously with our 1:100 scale study model to assist in developing a coherent
vision for the project.

Description: Community College North is a mixed used education facility in northern Amsterdam. Both the challenge and intrigue for the project was how to bring social activity into a large-scale institution; consciously encouraging interaction between two separate schools, (Bredero College and ROCvA) in a single building. An atrium cuts through the centre of each floor enabling interaction through a fluid double-helix circulation scheme.
During the project‘s interior design phase, exploration and experimentation was encouraged to discover a certain atmosphere. Particular spaces within the building are given special attention, creating a series of moments as one moves through. Each of these areas were closely studied through physical models as well as computer modelling, diagrams and vignettes.
